The Sandwich Police Department strives to be active in our community. We aspire to be an integral part of the community, not only in enforcing the laws, but being a part of the community's fabric. To attain that goal we must be engaged in activities in the community, be approachable, and be transparent.
This year, 35 million school children around the world - 26 million of
whom are in the U.S. - will benefit from the D.A.R.E. program This highly
acclaimed program gives children the skills they need to avoid involvement
in drugs, gangs, or violence. D.A.R.E. was founded in 1983 in Los Angeles
and has proven so successful that it is now being implemented in nearly
80 percent of our nation's school districts and 54 countries around the
world. D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that
teach children in 5th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive
drug and violence-free lives. For more information about the D.A.R.E. program
in Sandwich contact Officer Brian Fasnacht at 815-786-7261.
Do you need someone to keep tabs on your residence while you're away? We can help. Give us a call at 815-786-7261 or stop by the police department to find out how your house or business can be added to our House Check list. When you are on our house check list we make every effort to drive by your neck of the woods and/or stop by and make sure the doors to your house or business are secure and that there are no signs of criminal activity. Please note however that we can not guarantee a specific amount of time devoted to your property as we serve approximately 8,000 citizens!
An Extra Patrol list is maintained by the police department. This list is typically reserved for geographic areas and properties that have been victimized by criminal activity. For example if your neighborhood suffered a rash of burglary to vehicles, criminal damage to property, graffiti, etc, an area or specific address could be added to the Extra Patrol list. This list is analyzed daily by our officers and every attempt is made to identify, prevent, and eliminate the criminal activity in the area.
It has happened to all of us. You locked your keys in the car on lunch break. It's snowing and you slid into a ditch. Your car died at the most inoppertune time. You realize that 'E' didn't mean 'Enough' and it actually meant you're about to run out of gas! We can help stranded motorists out, whether it be extracting your locked keys from your car or helping you contact a tow company. Give us a call on our NON-EMERGENCY phone number 815-786-7261. Please note that while we understand that the situation is an emergency for you, we may be handling more pressing calls for service elsewhere in the city. Be patient and we'd be happy to help you as soon as we can. You may also note that we can only assist motorists within our city limits. For all rural assistance contact the appropriate police department or sheriff's office jurisdiction.
